Our Research

Our research explores the diversity, ecology and sustainability of marine and coastal ecosystems along the South African Wild Coast and Eastern Cape, investigating biodiversity, species interactions, environmental conditions and ecosystem processes. We combine field-based research, laboratory approaches and emerging technologies to generate knowledge that supports marine science, sustainable resource use, food security, climate-change adaptation and the development of future marine scientists.

01

Marine Biodiversity

Documenting and understanding the diversity of species across marine and coastal habitats.

02

Estuaries & Coastal Ecosystems

Studying fish communities, mangroves and habitat connectivity across estuarine and coastal environments

03

Environmental Change

Investigating how coastal environments respond to changing physical and chemical conditions

04

Molecular & Emerging Technologies

Applying molecular and data-driven tools to marine and coastal research questions.
